Day 2 – make a Christmas card or present for your friends
”I love making Christmas cards so much” declared Euan yesterday so I knew today’s suggestion from the Kindness Elves was going to be warmly received. E loves to sit at the kitchen table drawing and sticking and writing which is so lovely to silently observe.
E’s always been curious about letters and numbers and as soon as he could ask questions he’d point to road signs or lettering on grates and ask what it said. One of his favourite games is to call out a word, ask how it’s spelt and then write it down. It’s heart warming to be able to encourage his love of learning so simply through sincere communication and connection with him. Today he asked G to write out the alphabet so he could practice his letters. Such delight on his face when he realised he was writing S backwards and then wrote it the right way with no assistance but his own careful observation and determination.
Day 3 – reading Mr Tickle to Whatsapp to friends and family
Day 4 – phone someone you love and tell them your favourite and best today
(E told Papa G about being Angel Gabriel in the playgroup nativity and getting a chocolate lolly afterwards)
Day 5 – making cookies with his best friend Iri
Day 6 – make some yarn wrap leaves for your friends
(we intended to do this but Euan’s ‘s daily card making turned into gift making for Nana and Grandad instead)
Day 7 – make a bird feeder to hang in someone’s garden
Our first attempt at making bird feeders, using coconut oil and gelatine, flopped (too crumbly). Our second attempt using good old fashioned lard in a yogurt pot succeeded.
Day 8 – piggy bank pennies for Guide Dogs for the blind
Day 9 – make a card to say thank you to the dustbin men for all their hard work
Day 10 – choose a book and a toy to give away to another boy
surplus toy cars donated to our local playgroup. Scout dog and stories sold for piggy bank pounds (Euan is saving for yet more lego!)
Day 11 – make a card for the postman to say thank you for all our parcels
Day 12 – donate some pet food to an animal shelter
(donated cat food at Morrisons for New Start Cat Rescue )
Day 13 – spread some love and Christmas cheer – give a hug/high five/a smile/a wave to everyone you see today
(an ongoing part of the festive season!)
