I had a feeling I’d told you about our New Years Day walk tradition before.
”Each New Year starts the same: with an afternoon walk on Crickley Hill” I wrote this time 3 years ago. Ironic that it proved to be the last time we took a walk there – subsequent walks thwarted by most of our friends moving away and pregnancy 2 years running. Last year we opted for the closer location of Painswick Beacon for our first New Years Day walk with E.
An attempt to reignite the Crickley Hill walk tradition on Wednesday with a new bunch of friends was thwarted by lashing rain and howling winds. We didn’t even make it out to the local park for a walk. Instead I thought about other traditions we might create with E over the coming years.
This is a beautifully simple idea that appeals to my sense of cherishing the little things and taking a moment each day to be thankful.

OK let us make a start.
Today, how are you all ?
That’s a lovely idea, Nic! xx
Nic. Amazing. I am doing exactly this too. It’s easier than a diary and at the end of each day I remember little moments to treasure! Great minds… 🙂 x
lovely Nic, we have started one in our office x
Dad – days in January so far, great, great, great
Merci – I used to do a regular 5 things to be grateful for at bedtime and then E came along and it went out the window (not because he stopped me doing it but because being grateful for other things was part of my tactic for filling the hole made by struggling to become a Mum).
Jasmin – brilliant, we’ll compare notes as time goes on :o) you have double the inspiration with your beautiful girls x
Maureen – wow, a work gratitude jar, that’s ace. I’d love to work in your office!
