in saying yes to love (15 years wed)

wedding_confetti pictureThere is a way of looking at the world
which takes great faith to see:

before all time began,
the word love was breathed into the universe,
and in every time since then,
its echo is waiting to be told.

And in childish dreams we long for love
to find us
tightly scripting our hopes by poetry and love songs
never imagining the courage it takes
to make the words of love our own.

Because in saying yes to love –
until death do us part –
we choose that the paper our story is written on
will, from now on, be kindness,
that the ink that writes our next pages
will forever be grace,
and that the words that fill and shape our lives
will be patience
and justice
and forgiveness…

And in the moments – because they will come –
when the ink runs out
and the paper is crumpled
and the story of love feels like it has no words left to be told,
may the silence that stretches before us
be filled with the faith
of the echo
of the memory
of the love

spoken into the world
before all time began

(by Cheryl Lawrie @ Hold this Space)

15 years wed, quite a milestone in this day and age (cripes how old do I sound!).
I was browsing the net last night looking for some schmoozy quote or poem that summed up our nearly 2 decades together.   Reading lovey dovey stuff made me realise just how much has changed for us since becoming parents.  The most obvious thing (apart from seeing so much less of each other now) is that when I read declarations of love it’s E’s face that springs to mind not G’s! Sounds funny I know but I’m certain George would say the same; sharing a deeper bond than we could have ever imagined back in 1998 by our unconditional love for our little guy.Our wedding 4B

The poem I chose to share, ‘In saying yes to love’, was written by Cheryl as a wedding reflection for friends.  She has such a beautiful way with words and this poem in particular touched my heart in a number of ways.
”There is a way of looking at the world which takes great faith to see” Cheryl begins.
For so many years our world was we two and not how we’d planned it to be.  It took great faith to realise our dream of being parents and when I think of all we went through to have Euan it’s summed up in this anonymous quote

‘‘When the world says ”Give up”, Hope whispers “Try one more time”

Our love for E was certainly “an echo waiting to be told”.  He was born out of a partnership where kindness is central. Grace and patience are welcome friends in our home and when stretched thin their mutual friend forgiveness can usually be found waiting in the wings. When the story of our love has no words left to be told, the silence that stretches before us will be cherished, together.  We need no words, no cards, no presents – love is a decision we make every day and our actions speak quietly for us.  Out of the silence our love is made visible in him.E in new loung - Aug 2013 4B

ps.  Happy Anniversary to my lovely mum and dad who are also celebrating this week – a terrific 45 years for them!  It’ll be our first anniversaries without my nan so lovely to have an opportunity to remember special moments shared with her.

Beautiful reflections Nic, and you know I’m a fellow Lawrie fan! Love is worth celebrating (my auto correct tried for ‘cementing’ first, also true!) x

Beautiful, thank you. You are both a true inspiration. I hope that, as much as you love E, you get a little bit of time with your G today too. Lots of love xxx

El – it was you that put me onto Cheryl’s blog so thanks again for that. Love is worth celebrating and we intend to do so properly with curry on Sunday!

Roo – well maybe not today as G’s working this evening but at the weekend definitely.

The boys and I took a walk to beautiful Lassington The boys and I took a walk to beautiful Lassington Woods and the hill that was covered in snow just a month ago. We loved seeing all the hand made signs warning us where to walk to protect the bluebells. I'm so grateful for this week's sunny spells.

Hope you've been able to get out and soak up the hope of new life and brighter days emerging x

I had a gorgeous bimble on Haresfield Beacon with I had a gorgeous bimble on Haresfield Beacon with the boys yesterday. We parked at our favourite Standish Woods and walked the 30 minutes to the top. We took a wrong path at one point and had to scramble like mountain goats up the side of the hill (absolutely the highlight, such fun!). While Euan and I took some pictures on the trig point Luca took himself off to admire the view.
.
The boys were amazing with running around and walking all the way back too. They didn't complain until the final uphill stretch but rightly so as it was hard going. It's so good to get outside and it's a long time since my body has felt hot and our of breath from exertion!

We were blessed with sunshine for our walk on Stinchcombe Hill. The boys loved the bunkers on the golf course and we were able to get some gorgeous food to take out afterwards from @leafandground (such a treat to be cooked for). Of course the best birthday present was bunking off school work for the day! (For Euan that is, I'm now cracking open my anatomy folder for an hour for tomorrow's college session while G gets the boys to bed).
Last week I felt overwhelmed, exhausted and frustr Last week I felt overwhelmed, exhausted and frustrated. Home schooling children while trying to fulfil all my other commitments wasn't working out so well. I realised this when robbing from my sleep bank resulted in the tell tale headaches that lead to a migraine.
.
This week, with the start of a new month, I resolved to prioritise rest (everything gets ugly on rubbish sleep!). I need 8 hours sleep. I need quiet time to stretch (without children climbing on me or asking for food!). I need to walk in nature. I need to connect with people outside my family, as Nic, not always as Mum to Euan and Luca. And sometimes I need to moan, to stop holding everything, to let the stagnant energy out and the fresh loving energy in.
.
I drew up a list of what supports a headache free life and started ticking things off (I did this on day 3 so have no guilt about those blank boxes at the start of the month!). I'm resolved to keep up the ticks. I expect there will be days with gaps (like today's rain thwarting a nature walk) but I'm ok with that too.
.
The day I drew up my tracker I also decided to draw a cards from my Lunar cycle oracle cards deck and the Universe has your back. I think they confirmed I'm on the right track. Taking care of your body can never be a bad option to go with!!!

Snow doesn't stick in the city so today we found a hill. George's Dad had made the boys a sledge from an old car seat. What fab recycling 😊🛷
