Yogurt, such a satisfying snack for babies. There’s no questioning the best way for a toddler to eat from his very first pot of baby yogurt. By the fistful into his mouth, splashes of yogurt up his nose and smeared through his hair by the end!
E’s not had a small pot of yogurt to himself before. We buy family size pots of plain Greek Yogurt generally as yogurts marketed to children tend to be loaded with artificial sweeteners if not some form of sugar itself. I hadn’t realised Rachel’s have a baby friendly sugar free range of fruit yogurts until they contacted me to see if E, Chief Taster Extraordinaire, was available to try them.
My First yoghurts are the closest baby yogurt product we’ve found to what we were creating in our own kitchen. Made with organic whole milk, sweetened with fruit juice with puree mixed in and no hidden junk in the form of colours or flavourings – baby gets a healthy, nutritious, tasty snack while Mum gets 10 minutes to sort out the shopping/wash up/read some blogs etc. Granted it’s messy letting babies and toddlers loose on yogurt but food is to be enjoyed isn’t it?
It wasn’t all fists and fingers as you can see. G and I snuck a taste from E’s pot as well (Billy cat tried and failed) and we were pleasantly surprised at just how lovely they tasted – fresh and fruity with just the right balance of sweetness and creaminess and none of the sickly sweet after taste you can sometimes get from artificially sweetened yogurt. In fact if Rachel’s produced a family size pot of this yoghurt I don’t think we’d buy any other brand again. One small pot of yoghurt is rarely enough, it would reduce our food bill upsizing as well as the amount of packaging to recycle and most importantly would help parents make healthier food choices too. G is the first to admit that he has a cheeky sweet tooth and reaching for the fruit yoghurt is the lesser of two evils when it comes to hankering after chocolate to satisfy his sweet cravings. He would be one very satisfied customer if My First yogurts came in Daddy sized pots!
Disclosure: I was sent free samples of Rachel’s yogurts.
I was not required to write a positive review and all opinions are my own.
We love them in our house too – my boys still eat them!
I don’t think they are available over here and can only agree wholeheartedly with that comment on the sickly sweet aftertaste. I try various brands from time to time but have not as yet found one that I can stay with!
E looks to be thoroughly enjoying his new position as food taster!
