… to the dogs by the look of it! A friend recently described hers as a ‘disaster area’ so what does that make mine? There are a few onions and carrots being choked under that lot. The beans didn’t take at all and someone kindly suggested that’s a common tale among gardeners this year (not so for everyone judging by the glorious thicket on my neighbours plot!).
The potatoes and tomatoes look like a giant slug has massacred them but I suspect it’s the damage caused by being drowned and then scorched by our feckless British weather. Some summer eh! Sad to say we have absolutely nothing to harvest and no hope of making amends this year.
Look at our sad and sorry strawberry bed overun with nettles and brambles. Hey ho, Plan A come the Autumn… scav some runners to replant so that E can eat home grown strawberries next year. Here he is enjoying his first strawberry while visiting friends in Durham

you are lucky you have not had a ‘letter’. I got one despite having spinach, raspberries, broad beans, blackcurrants, globe artichokes, potatoes, onions, leeks, runner beans, hollyhocks, feverfew, poppies, marigolds on my plot, but they weren’t in straight rows and there were some weeds…
It is disheartning Nic, but the weather “mix-up” is the main culprit.
A day flowing in alternate rain and sunshine, is not helpful and it is
forecast that way for this weekend also. Talking of sunshine, you and Euan look good Tuesday and George is back Saturday.

oh nic, ours looks much the same! Last week i went over at 8.30pm after Rubio was asleep and hacked down waist height grass for an hour with a sickle! Backbreaking work, and i only did half, ed had to finish it off another day. We also had ALL of our beans munched off at ground level, plus the courgettes and chard seedlings. So we are left with lots and lots and lots of calendula, erm… oh and raspberries, potatoes and a few broad beans still. I’m amazed we haven’t been told off yet! Ahh, these babies… X
That last photo is utterly delightful! It has been a dreadful year for veg growers, I must admit I am sort of glad that I haven’t been able to do any veg growing because of the move, I think it would have been a rather dispiriting exercise. Ah well, there is always next year!
Hi Nic, it has been a very disheartening season for all gardeners unless you can babysit your plot and go each day which few of us can. The weather has been terrible and the only things growing are the weeds!
Looks a bit like our veg garden at the moment, weather and other distractions has take it’s toll here too.

Looks like Mother Nature had it in for you guys this season. Bummer but better luck next year. Bright side is you took a break and so did your plot. Think of it as free amendment. Get a plow and till it back in ! 😛
