soul cheering sunshine and sprouts

You’d think having nothing to do and nowhere to be would be bliss but waiting for a baby to come, when your body is preserving its energy and sends out ‘can’t be bothered’ vibes to anything more strenuous than getting out of bed, is actually quite dull.  And if I mention nights of hardly any sleep … well you can imagine how dull can grow into ‘a bit fed up’.
On Saturday when I begged George to take me to the allotment for some cheering sunshine and fresh air he could hardly say no.  With the promise that I wouldn’t do anything more than look as soon as we arrived at the plot my spirits lifted. Our kale was looking finer than ever thanks to the winter chill wiping out all trace of white fly.  Our single sprout stalk was looking majestic with lovely cherry sized pickings.  And the smaller stalks of sprouting were easily pinched off in favour of the larger, slightly woodier ones.  A delightfully unexpected harvest which we enjoyed lightly steamed this evening. My first visit to the allotment in 2012, and my last for now.
The timer is ticking but the bun is still in the oven. Not for much longer I hope …..

Those greens will be good for the ‘bun’ – bless you, I bet you are totally fed up, but baby clearly wants to stay in the warm x

Nice post!. It is amazing how allotments can have a transforming effect on your mental state, especially if they are in a quiet secluded spot. Looks like you are very close to another transforming effect, you must be exhausted!

Lovely veggies, lucky you, but hope the main event isn’t long now. Both my girls were as late as they were allowed to be, and Emma was born in the famous hot drought of 1976, so it was awful. I know just how you feel, but your bump is a lovely neat shape. ;o)

Baby will arrive soon, but I know how hard it is at this point. My first was a week overdue and I could not stand it! Wishing you much happiness at the soon-to-debut sweet bundle:)

You’ve gone past ‘bump’ and are venturing into protuberance!

Actually, it’s a good thing that BabyBird is biding his/her time. I always feel sorry for folk who have their birthday right close to Christmas – this way your little ‘un is putting a goodly amount of time between festive season and further celebrations. There, what a considerate child and not even born yet?

Eeeekkk – I’m sure it’s not long now. You’re tummy looks like it’s dropped and that’s a good sign and as for not much sleep, I always felt like my body was preparing me for the worst.

Enjoy these last days whilst you can – it can be such a roller coaster when you have a new born babe in your arms – wonderful and magical and ‘oh so’ fantastic, but definitely a roller coaster of emotion and change.

    take care and best wishes,

    Nina x

Everlovin’ Dad drops a clue by posting at 5.12am yesterday…..

Nic gave birth to Euan our son at 3.20am yesterday morning. It was tough work with a long complicated labour and a radical but very necessary deviation from the home birth plan we had chosen.

I’m sure Nic will fill everyone in on the details in her own style and way, but expect a little bit of a delay with posts for a while as we settle into working out how to help grow our little man the best we can!

    Congratulations to you both!

The way with kids is that plans must often be deviated from. Hope that you are all doing well, and the adjustments are not too hard.

I am positive Euan will thrive and grow to be as productive and amazing as your allotment under your care!

Much love to you all x

What a big baby for such a small girl! 10llb 2 oz; Nic had so much experience tending her veggies to full health we should have expected no less really 🙂 Hope the plot yields some lovely fresh veg for the needy mummy now and that there will be lovely people around who can pick it for you- perhaps cook it too 😉
With many thoughts and prayers too for renewed strength and graceful patience thats so needed in these early days. Simply cant wait to see the fruits 🙂 xxxx love to all three of you

Congratulations!. The whole family must be so proud.

For some reason your post reminds me of 3 brothers at my former school. The first got the nickname ‘Cabbage’, the second ‘Sprout’ and the third ‘Pea’. (Shocking – as peas are not even a brassica)

I had a gorgeous bimble on Haresfield Beacon with I had a gorgeous bimble on Haresfield Beacon with the boys yesterday. We parked at our favourite Standish Woods and walked the 30 minutes to the top. We took a wrong path at one point and had to scramble like mountain goats up the side of the hill (absolutely the highlight, such fun!). While Euan and I took some pictures on the trig point Luca took himself off to admire the view.
.
The boys were amazing with running around and walking all the way back too. They didn't complain until the final uphill stretch but rightly so as it was hard going. It's so good to get outside and it's a long time since my body has felt hot and our of breath from exertion!
Expect this to be my look from now on! Totally di Expect this to be my look from now on! Totally digging my Soundcore wireless, noise cancelling headphones. I mostly listen to Audible books, sometimes music, but think I may well just wear these to shut out the day to day noise 😆

We were blessed with sunshine for our walk on Stinchcombe Hill. The boys loved the bunkers on the golf course and we were able to get some gorgeous food to take out afterwards from @leafandground (such a treat to be cooked for). Of course the best birthday present was bunking off school work for the day! (For Euan that is, I'm now cracking open my anatomy folder for an hour for tomorrow's college session while G gets the boys to bed).
Last week I felt overwhelmed, exhausted and frustr Last week I felt overwhelmed, exhausted and frustrated. Home schooling children while trying to fulfil all my other commitments wasn't working out so well. I realised this when robbing from my sleep bank resulted in the tell tale headaches that lead to a migraine.
.
This week, with the start of a new month, I resolved to prioritise rest (everything gets ugly on rubbish sleep!). I need 8 hours sleep. I need quiet time to stretch (without children climbing on me or asking for food!). I need to walk in nature. I need to connect with people outside my family, as Nic, not always as Mum to Euan and Luca. And sometimes I need to moan, to stop holding everything, to let the stagnant energy out and the fresh loving energy in.
.
I drew up a list of what supports a headache free life and started ticking things off (I did this on day 3 so have no guilt about those blank boxes at the start of the month!). I'm resolved to keep up the ticks. I expect there will be days with gaps (like today's rain thwarting a nature walk) but I'm ok with that too.
.
The day I drew up my tracker I also decided to draw a cards from my Lunar cycle oracle cards deck and the Universe has your back. I think they confirmed I'm on the right track. Taking care of your body can never be a bad option to go with!!!
