Ardgarten visitor centre, our first stop after leaving Glasgow. It was raining heavily as we dashed from the car to buy an ordinance survey map and we weren’t sorry to have abandoned our original plan to camp.
An enforced stop 40 minutes later when two passing vehicles got stuck in the road found us reversing into a layby opposite the Largiemore Holiday Estate. With time to kill while someone fetched a fork lift tractor we crossed the road to have a nosy at the view and consider whether it might be a future holiday destination. We stopped and stared and pondered which of our friends might be prepared to make the 400 mile journey with us.
10 minutes later we were ordering our lunch from the Oystercatcher at Otter Ferry
We reached our destination in double the suggested time because we couldn’t help but drive slowly to admire the unfolding scenery. Our jaw dropped when we were shown to our room at the Kames Hotel – a magnificent view to wake up to and the sound of the waves gently lapping the shore. Bliss.
